Modern biotechnological technological knowledge and research have played a pivotal role in growth, sustainability and profitability of agriculture production in agriculture and allied sectors of the state of Orissa in the back drop of frequent crop loss due to flood, salinity and draught. Department is continuously engaged to develop high quality scientific human resources and engaged in evaluation, production and protection of crops. It has well developed laboratory facilities, green house facilities, seminar/conference rooms, computer lab and well furnished library with latest books on Biotechnology.

The department imparts integrated teaching and Research programme in Cell and Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Tissue Culture, Genetic Engineering, Immunology, Molecular Cytogenetics, Stress Biology, Proteomics, Genomics and Bio-informatics.
